Watching this pizza maestro in action is not only entertaining, but also inspiring. Tony's enthusiasm for life, and pizza, is contagious. His spirit fills the room whether he is competing for a world record or teaching young fans how to toss a pie.

Californian shocks Italians, wins Naples pizza-making contest

Tony Gemignani’s eight world dough-tossing acrobatics titles have made his name almost synonymous with the quirky craft of spinning the skins. But when the co-owner of Pyzano’s Pizzeria in Castro Valley, Calif., entered the Trofeo Citta di Napoli Championato Internazionale per Pizzaioli—which translates to the City of Naples Trophy, International Championship of Pizza Makers—pizza-baking contest last month in Naples, he was virtually unknown.

Champion pizzaiolo seeks oven



The Bay Area's own Tony Gemignani went to Naples, the birthplace of pizza, and came home the world champion Neapolitan pizza maker - beating every Italian contender in the very city where pizza was born.
But he still can't make his championship thin-crust margherita pie at his own Castro Valley pizzeria, Pyzano's, which he runs with his brother, Frank (or at their Spin Gourmet Pizza nightspot in Walnut Creek).

In Napa Valley four pizza makers were chosen to compete in a Pizza Battle. Set at Franciscan estates winery, each team were given different mystery baskets with three secret ingredients. The teams were then given two different wines that had to be paired with the secret ingredient. The teams were only allowed ten minutes to create two pizza recipes. All chefs lead separate groups of sommelier's from around the world. Each team had to make fifteen pizzas in thirty five minutes and present them to the judges.

Six-time world champion pizza tosser performs at the county fair.

When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie ... Teresa Acevedo was feeling the amore Sunday when she was lightly struck by a flying pizza at the Orange County Fair. The 5-year-old from Paramount giggled as the raw dough landed on her face, covering her with flour.

It was the work of Tony Gemignani, a six-time world pizza-throwing champion, who demonstrated his unique pizza-tossing style during four performances in front of Enzo's Pizzeria, which supplied Gemignani with the dough.
